It is encouraging to see so many clubs advertised on the internet, where do they all come from and what are their origins? Does it really matter that much provided the Instructors run the clubs in a professional manner and do not use the club to satisfy their own ego's?
Why is it that Martial Artists are so suspicious of each other, I find it incredible that clubs and associations are not willing to work together more, sharing their ideas and good practice to the overal development of Martial Arts as a whole.
To combat this the British Kempo Ju-Jitsu Federation has developed a three tier membership level, so there is a membership level to suit everyone at all stages of their Martial Arts career, indeed the Associate Member Level is free of charge to all comers with no hidden agenda, please checkout the link below, we would open the debate on whether this is of benefit to Groups in general?

I have found martial arts clubs are very political.
Most has the total belief that their art is the superior and in many cases this I think breads egos
We can all learn from each other and I have found this at our annual meetings at Woolacombe Devon where many styles get together. It may not be a technique, throw or a move but more often a thought or an understanding viewed from another prospective that makes something suddenly clear.
This I feel could be extended into other local martial arts clubs whatever their style, but rather than being reactive I think be proactive. Maybe clubs should invite other clubs to train with each other and we should go and train at theirs, not mob handed but in a respectful way. Then maybe they will do similar to their local clubs this will deflate egos and maybe a harmony and respect that may spread.

Thank you Mark, a very mature way of thinking, unfortunately too many martial arts instructors are somewhat narrow minded and cannot see the wood for the tree. It is all too often the way that egocentric instructors fail to see the importance of opening their minds to the potential beyond. A little philosophical maybe? but I do believe martial arts in the UK are not evolving in a positive way and that is probably due to too many over inflated grades leading to instructors who have lost some fundamental core values.
